Here are the answers to some of your most Frequently Asked Questions about Travel Soccer:

How do I sign up for Travel Soccer?

Travel soccer tryouts take place in the Fall prior to the spring/summer season.  For example, tryouts for the 2009 soccer season took place in September and October of 2008.  Tryouts are open to any players who feel they would like to play in a more competitive league and who can committ to a long and busy season of soccer.  Tryout dates are advertised in the Daily Messenger, the Genesee Valley Penny Saver and online starting in August. Players are required to attend one of the tryout dates but encouraged to attend both.

Is Travel soccer more competitive than recreation soccer?

For the most part, yes.  It requires a much higher level of committment from players, parents, and coaches.  Canandaigua Attack plays in the Rochester District Youth Soccer League and plays teams from all over Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario Counties.

When will players find out if they made the team?

Once tryouts have been completed, coaches and members of the executive board hold a meeting to discuss individual players and team rosters.  Most players are notified by mid to late November.  Criteria for making the team is listed on the Attack web page.

When does the season start?

The practice season starts indoors in January.  Most teams practice once a week on a weekend day.  Some coaches opt for some extended indoor practice by enterning the team into an indoor league or tournament.  Outdoor practices start in Mid April and increase in frequence to about 2 imes per week, depending on individual coaches.

How far do we have to travel and is transportation provided?

There is quite a bit of travel involved for many teams.  Some teams we play are:  Fairport, Victor, Penfield, Webster, York, Genesee Valley, Wayne, Pittsford, Brighton, Hilton, and Greece.  Transportation must be provided by parents or family members.  Carpooling is also encouraged.

When do games start and how many games are there?

League games start anywhere from the third week in May to the 1st of June.  Our Club plays 12 games total, 6 home games and 6 away.  All teams are encouraged to play in tournaments as well.  CASL supports 1 tournament for U8-U10 teams and 2 tournaments for U11-U17.

I am interested in coaching and have soccer experience, who should I contact?

Our new Vice President of Travel Soccer, Ray Lincoln, or Mark Annesi, Our Coaching Coordinator.

How much will it cost for my daughter/son to play travel soccer?

Fees for the 2010 season will remain the same as for the 2009 season:  U8-U10 = $180 for the season, U11-U17=$195 for the season.  Late fees will be charged after February 15th.

What is covered by the fee and will I be charged anything additional?

The fee covers:  A full uniform (includes home and away jersey, shorts, and socks) that the player can keep, game and training equipment for the team, registration fees for New York State West Soccer Association and Rochester District Youth Soccer League, field maintenance, referee fees, 1 or 2 tournament fees, A season pass to the Rochester Rhinos home games (Pro Pass), and administrative costs.  The only additional fees that may come into play are if you would like to order additional uniform items or if your team decides to play in an extra tournament or league.

What is the committment level?

Most coaches require a high level of committment, especially in the upper age groups.  It is expected that players attend all practices and games, as advised by the coach.  Parents will be required to travel outside of Ontario County for many of our away games.

Why did the tryout registration fee increase to $50.00?

This fee is used to obtain insurance for players during the tryout season and to ensure commitment from players that are trying out.  The fee is non-refundable for any player that makes a team.  It IS refundable if a player does NOT make a team.  This fee is also subtracted from the total registration fee due upon the start of the season.
